Eish

First let me explain two of my facebook statuses from last week:

See my next post for the second status!

Eish! — feeling exhausted.
For this you first have to understand what Eish means! It is a commonly used term here in South Africa to express exasperation. I use it a lot! Now, why did I use this on my fb status last week?

Well it all started with the adventure to the soccer game.

The national game of Brazil vs. Bafana Bafana! We had been excited about it for weeks. Two of our dear friends (who will remain nameless) organized the purchasing of tickets.

The game was in Johannesburg, which is only an hour away. The tickets were purchases by our friends last week... so we were cool. We left leave after work at 5 so we could get there an hour early...
Wrong. And more wrong.

Our friends did not purchase the tickets. We found this out after being stuck in traffic for two hours. I think it was a 10-15 minutes before the game was supposed to start. Oh but dont worry, we still had another hour of traffic to sit through...

We finally parked (on the sidewalk), walked about a mile an a half, and bought tickets from a scalper on the street. It wasn't until we had walked about another half a mile and entered the stadium that we realized our tickets were duplicate tickets! OY VEY!

A man appeared and escorted us across a swampy dark field into this small dark tower... no really it was some sort of tower! I definitely thought we were going to be on the next episode of Locked Up Abroad (I can be a bit dramatic at times... hehe). A woman appeared and began to question us about where we had purchased the tickets, if we had anymore and then she went on to educate us on the difference between a real ticket and a copy.

After being released we called our friends, who happened to buy tickets on the street as well. These tickets happened to be legit! Success! When she handed us the tickets through the gate it felt like we were being handed the golden ticket in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory!

Our seats happened to be AMAZING and the 30-40 minutes of the end of the game that we did get to see were pretty epic. Brazil kicked our butts but it was really cool to seem the World Cup hosting hand off at the end. It was pretty sad when the crowd booed current president Zuma, but it was definitely a priceless moment and even though the traffic was insane and I thought we would be in jail, it was worth it...

Great seats with the roomies!

Finally made it to the game! Pure Joy!

Wait... did you think that was the end of the story? Did you think that was worth the EISH! Ha! Just you wait!

On the way back to the car...

Soooo it was me and my three roommates! We were walking back... I had to use the restroom ( I have a very small bladder and had just used the restroom inside the stadium). Kelly, had to use the restroom as well. We remembered that there was gas station up ahead and we told Cory and Amanda that we would go ahead and use the restroom and meet back up with them outside.

As soon as we walked into the parking lot it was mayhem! There were cars, people, and lots of loud music. We asked a man, who to seemed to be a parking attendant, where the restroom was. All of a sudden we were surrounded by a large group of guys claiming they would escort us to the restroom. Needless to say Kelly and I were terrified and tried to hightail it out of there. Men started groping us trying to escort us to the bathroom and follow us everywhere. So we zig zagged our way in and out of the gas station to realize there was actually no bathroom on the premises. So we grabbed each others hands and ran as fast as we could until we lost them. Let's just say I am glad we had been working out so much. Once we got away we found some bricks on the ground and each grabbed one to protect ourselves as we walked back to the car in hopes of finding Cory and Amanda.

Once we were all reunited and in the car safe and sound we made our way home. I'd never been so happy to be home! That was what resulted in my "Eish" facebook status.

Stay tuned for what happened the following morning! I will try and post that one soon but as usual I am running out of internet time!

With love, Ubuntu
